Maori and Pasifika Scholarships for Acupuncture Study

The New Zealand School of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine (NZSATCM) is pleased to announce the launch of a scholarship program to support and encourage Maori and Pasifika learners to pursue their studies in Chinese medicine.

 Six scholarships will be awarded for new full-time Maori and Pasifika learners who are holding New Zealand citizenship or permanent residency and have enrolled in the Bachelor of Health Science (Acupuncture) programme.

Successful applicants, including those who are eligible for fees-free, will receive $3,000 in the first year to support them to realise their dreams to become an acupuncturist and/or a Chinese medicine doctor. Upon passing all the courses at the end of the academic year, they will continue to receive scholarships in the following academic year.

For applicants under the general category, entry requirements are the achievement of NCEA level 3 (60 credits at level 3 or higher and 20 credits at level 2 or higher), including:

  • A minimum of 14 credits at level 3 or higher in each of three subjects from the list of approved subjects,
  • A minimum of 10 credits at level 2 or higher in English or Te Reo Maori made up of 5 credits in reading and 5 credits in writing, and
  • A minimum of 10 credits at level 1 or above in numeracy, made up of achievement standards – specified achievement standards available through a range of subjects, or unit standards – package of three numeracy unit standards (26623, 26626, 26627 – all three required), or
  • Any qualification (New Zealand or overseas) recognised by NZQA as being equivalent to the achievement of NCEA level 3.
