Quality Chinese Medicine Programmes
Over the years, the School has produced hundreds of graduates who are highly skilled and professional TCM practitioners. The precise clinical skills acquired at the School are used to achieve accurate diagnoses and successful treatments. Our graduates are able to work professionally in local and international environments.
The teaching curriculum prepares you to establish your own acupuncture practice. Within three years of graduation, over 80% of our graduates established their own acupuncture clinics in New Zealand and overseas countries. The school’s range of bachelor’s degree, postgraduate certificate, diploma and masters’ degree studies connect you to the workplace. The curriculum is current and relevant. The contents are of the right mix of theory and practical skills. Our academic staircase enables you to attain multiple qualifications by gaining credits in lower-level studies towards a higher-level qualification.

Practice Management
A successful acupuncture practice requires an understanding of the business, ethics, and legal issues of the acupuncture profession. In the practice management curriculum, you will create a comprehensive business plan that will serve as an on-going resource and road map in creating and marketing a successful practice. You will also learn about practical issues such as scope of practice, medical record keeping, insurance and billing practices.

How do I become an acupuncturist in New Zealand?
To become an acupuncturist you need to have a Bachelor of Health Science (Level 7) in acupuncture plus 500 hours of clinical practice. Graduates of our 3-year full-time Bachelor of Health Science (Acupuncture) are eligible to register and practise as acupuncturists and ACC treatment providers in New Zealand.
How many years does it take to be an acupuncturist?
It takes three years to attain a Bachelor of Health Science (Level 7) in acupuncture in our School in order to practise as an acupuncturist in New Zealand.

As a Responsible Authority (RA) under the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act 2023 (HPCA act), the Chinese Medicine Council of New Zealand (the Council) was established in 2021 to regulate Chinese medicine services (including acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, and tuina massage therapy) in the country. The Council is considered as the government-appointed regulator of the profession, acting first and foremost in the interest of protecting the public.
To lawfully practise as a Chinese medicine practitioner in New Zealand, Chinese medicine practitioners must be registered and hold a current practising certificate issued by the Council. Therefore, registration with the Council is mandatory.
The Council is working with ACC to progress the necessary legislative changes as quickly as possible for Chinese medicine practitioners.
Established in 1977 and with more than 1,000 members, Acupuncture New Zealand is the oldest and largest professional body representing acupuncturists in Aotearoa New Zealand. The association’s members have been recognised as ACC treatment providers since 1990. A member of the World Federation of Acupuncture and Moxibustion Societies as well as the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies, the association also has strong affiliations with acupuncture organisations in Australia, China, the United States and Britain.
The association supports learners by providing free membership to all those enrolled at the School in a full-time programme of study in acupuncture.
Founded in the 1990s, the association aims at integrating members who are TCM professionals into the Aotearoa New Zealand healthcare environment, through attaining relevant academic qualifications as well as going through the registration process to become registered acupuncturists. The association updates its members on the latest legislations affecting the practice and development of Chinese medical practitioners in Aotearoa New Zealand.
The association was established in 1994 to promote all types of qigong and traditional Chinese medicine in Aotearoa New Zealand. It is a community of different styles and philosophies with the shared purpose of promoting the practice of qigong and TCM for health maintenance and wellbeing.
